When it comes to plumbing as with anything else, there are problems best left to the professionals. However, there are a few simple plumbing hacks that anyone can do. In some cases, these can save you time and money by taking care of a problem yourself.

Here are a few DIY plumbing hacks that can help you avoid calling a plumber.

Clearing a Clogged Sink

Baking soda and vinegar are a magical combination for clearing out food particles that clog your sink drain. Pour some baking soda down the drain and quickly add vinegar. The chemical reaction that results will break down the clog. Afterwards, just run hot water down the drain to clean it out.

Clearing a Clogged Toilet

Make sure you have an actual toilet plunger in your bathroom. Using a sink plunger won’t help and will just waste time. But even if you don’t have a plunger at all, you can still clear a clogged toilet by disconnecting the chain in the tank and running hot water into it.

Improving Shower Pressure

After shutting off the tap, simply remove the shower head and soak it in vinegar for a few hours. This will dissolve any clogs. Then reassemble it.

Fixing a Garbage Disposal

Every so often, put some ice cubes and lemon peel down your disposal and then run it for a few seconds. Afterwards, add some water and some dish soap. This process keeps your blades sharp.

Fixing a Leaky Faucet

This is an annoying problem which is actually quite simple to fix. Simply remove the faucet (after turning off the water, of course) and reassemble it with a new O-ring or washer.
